My name is Michail Stamatakis and I am a 5th year graduate student in the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department of Rice University. I am pursuing a Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Prof. Kyriacos Zygourakis and Dr. Nikos Mantzaris. I study the effect of stochasticity in genetic networks, such as lac operon in E. coli cells. Mathematical modeling and computational as well as physical experiments are the exploration tools! Moreover, I have done mathematical modeling research on signal trandsuction in astrocytes, a special type of glia cells in the nervous system. I also enjoy teaching and mentoring as much as I like learning and exploring new things. In my free time I enjoy socializing with fellow students and playing the guitar. One of my passions is photography: you can see some of my best photos in this site (click photography). I am also a former president of the Aegean Club, the Greek student club of Rice University and a member of the executive committee of BCM-Rice Consulting and Entrepreneurial Corps. |
